Capturing a Sprit of Excellence-3

Taking Responsibility

Daniel 6:3 “Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and provincial governors, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm.”

The first key to growing a spirit of excellence is by making God’s standards and values our standards and values.

The second key to growing that spirit of excellence and that is adding integrity to our lives.

Philippians 2:15-16 become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.

Genesis 39:3-4 “Now his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all that he did prosper in his hand. So Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal servant; and he made him overseer over his house, and put him in charge of all that he owned.”

Genesis 39:22 “And the warden of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison; so that whatever was done there, he was responsible for it.”

These two blessings are on your life right now- God is with you and He blesses everything you set your hands to do.

Hebrews 13:5 God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Deuteronomy 28:2, 8 All these blessings will come on you… The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to.

The third key to growing an excellent spirit is taking responsibility.‬

Matthew 25:24-25 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’

A victimhood mentality often keeps us from being responsible, which keeps us from promotion.

John 5:5-7 One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”

“Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”

Much of our life is out of our control.

Here is the lie: because of _______, I can’t change my circumstances.

Genesis 3: 11-13 And God said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"  The man said, "The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it." Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?"  The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."

God says that we are responsible for our actions.

Genesis 3:14, 17 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this… To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it…

Ezekiel 18:1-20 The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous man will be credited to him, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against him.

God says that we do have the freedom to choose how we respond in the season that we are in.

Deuteronomy 30:19 I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live

Ephesians 5:15 (Phillips Translation) "Live life with a sense of responsibility, not as those who don't know the meaning of life, but as those who do."

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

There isn’t a situation in your life that you can’t get out of with God’s help.

I Corinthians 10:13 No trial has confronted you except what a person can stand. God is faithful, and he will not allow you to be tried beyond your strength. But together with the trial he will also provide a way out and the strength to bear it.

One: be the hardest worker at your job.

Ephesians 6:7-8 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do

Two: Ask for more responsibility at your job.

Ephesians 6:5-8 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.

Three: Go the second mile.

Matthew 5:40-41 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.

Luke 17:10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”

Four: be a good steward of the three treasures God has given you-time, treasure, talent.

Proverbs 21:20 "The wise man saves for the future, but the foolish man spends whatever he gets."
