Notes for
Hearing the Voice of God-4
The Ways of God
Hebrews 5:14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason
of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
John 10:27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;
-The first area that God will speak to us is in the area of guidance.
Job 33:14-17 For God speaks once, yes twice… that he may withdraw man from his purpose
-When God guides us away from something that we are doing, we aren’t going to agree with
it at first.
Isaiah 46:10 I make known the end from the beginning,
Proverbs 3:6 MSG Listen for GOD’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the
one who will keep you on track.
Psalm 32:8-9 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with
my loving eye on you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but
must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.
-A second area God speaks is the area of perspective.
Daniel 10:12-14 “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain
understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come
in response to them. But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then
Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of
Persia. Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the
vision concerns a time yet to come.”
2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.
Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
God wants us to respond to what we are hearing from Him, not what we are seeing in front
of us.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you
and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
A third area that God speaks to us is to encourage us.
Romans 8:16 The Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our heart and tells us that we are God's
children.
Isaiah 43:1-2 “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are
mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of
difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be
burned up; the flames will not consume you.
I Corinthians 14:3 But when someone prophesies, he speaks to encourage people, to build them
up, and to bring them comfort.
Isaiah 55:3 MSG Pay attention, come close now, listen carefully to my life-giving, life-
nourishing words.
-The fourth area where God speaks to us is in the area of friendship.
Exodus 33:11 The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.
God has many children, but few friends.
John 15:15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s
business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have
made known to you.
Genesis 18:17 Then the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?
John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will
not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
-The fifth area that God speaks to us is in the area of warnings.
Acts 27:10 saying, “Men, I perceive that this voyage will end with disaster and much loss, not
only of the cargo and ship, but also our lives.”
-This is one of the principle ways that God speaks to us: our inner witness.
John 7:38-39 He that believes in me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers
of living water. (But this he spoke concerning the Spirit…
Romans 8:16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.
Acts 20:22 "And now, behold, bound in spirit, I am on my way to Jerusalem, not knowing what
will happen to me there,
