Every year is better when we start out the year seeking God.
The word breakthrough means a pivotal moment where God’s power breaches through an
obstacle in your life.
Key #1: Set specific objectives for breakthrough.
Habakkuk 2:1 I will stand at my watch… I will look to see what he will say to me
Ezra 8:21 Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves
before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us
Isaiah 58:6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: a time to take off the chains of sin, and
to take the heavy load of sin off the neck? Is it not a time to let those who suffer under a sinful
power go free, and to break every load from their neck?"
February we will be fighting for a breakthrough in our marriages and families.
March we will be fighting for a breakthrough in our physical bodies.
April we will focus on Easter and getting a breakthrough of salvation in the people around
us.
May we will be fighting for breakthrough in our finances.
Matthew 17:21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
Key #2: Decide what type of fasting you are going to do.
Definition of Fasting: Fasting is a time of refined focus where we get rid of the distractions
of life so that we can spend more time with God and get answers and breakthrough for our
life issues.
1. There is the total fast-just water.
2. Juice fast-deny yourself any solid food.
3. Daniel fast-fruits and vegetables, no sweets or meat.
Daniel 10:3 I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all
until the three weeks were over.
4. Fast certain meals- breakfast or lunch.
Matthew 6:17-18 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not
be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your
Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

entire immune system, study finds.
Key #3: This should be a time where you move your heart, not just your food.
Joel 2:12-13 “Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and
weeping and mourning.” Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God,
for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from
sending calamity.
Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against
the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in
the heavenly realms.
Because many of our struggles have a demonic presence against us, we often need an
infusion of God’s power to break through to the other side.
Matthew 11:12 From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers
violence, and violent men take it by force.
Luke 11:14-15 Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute. When the demon left, the man who
had been mute spoke, and the crowd was amazed. But some of them said, “By Beelzebul, the
prince of demons, he is driving out demons.”
Luke 11:20-22 if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come
upon you. “When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe. But
when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which the man
trusted and divides up his plunder.
Jesus is telling us that demons are strong men that look for houses both to guard and to live
in.
verses 24-26: “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking
rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds
the house swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked
than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the
first.”
Psalm 115:16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; But the earth He has given to the
children of men.
Demons also stand between us and the promises God has given us and try to stop us from
receiving them.
Luke 4:5-6 The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms
of the world. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been
given to me
Proverbs 13:22 But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.
John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;
Satan is called the thief because he stole our authority, our salvation, and our blessing.
The law of adverse possession:
-The squatter must live on the property for at least 15 years without interruption
-The squatter must be the only person living on the property
-The squatter's occupation must be obvious to anyone, including the landowner
-The squatter must treat the property as if it were their own
Luke 11:21-22 When a strong man fully armed guards his own house, his possessions are safe,
but when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which the
man trusted and divides up his plunder.
Psalm 115:16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; But the earth He has given to the
children of men.
But demons have the power, if they’re not disturbed by a Christian, to claim through
adverse possession any territory on this planet.
Daniel 9:1 In the first year of Darius… I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the
years specified by the word of the Lord through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish
seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem. Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make
request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.
Daniel 10:12-13 Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set
your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I
have come because of your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-
one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left
alone there with the kings of Persia.
Every meaningful promise that God has given you is guarded by a strong man and will be
contested.
