Notes for
Building Goshen-3
Thinking Like God Thinks
2 Peter 2:9 ICB And so the Lord knows how to save those who serve him. He will save them when troubles come. And the Lord will hold evil people and punish them
Genesis 47:27 Now the Israelites settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen. They acquired property there and were fruitful and increased greatly in number.
Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Joshua 1:8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
God believes that if we meditate on His word and understand how He thinks, we will be successful and prosperous in life.
Jews make up 2 tenths of one percent of the world’s population but they consistently have made up more than twenty percent of the Forbes 400 list of the world richest people.
Thirty percent of Nobel Prize winners in science are Jewish.
The reason that Jewish people are successful is because they memorize the first five books of the Bible by the age of ten and the knowledge put into God’s law by God makes them see the world differently.
Deuteronomy 28:8 The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to.
Deuteronomy 28:11-13 The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you. The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. The Lord will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.
First, God’s blessing works when you have something for Him to bless. You have to put your hands to something for God to bless.
Ecclesiastes 11:6 Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.
We determine the amount of blessing in our lives by how much we set our hands to do-you need more than one income stream.
Ecclesiastes 11:2 Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight; you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.
Solomon is telling us that in times of disaster we need seven or eight different income streams. We are talking about passive income, businesses, real estate, and things that bring in income.
Secondly, the blessing works when you become the head, not the tail.
Factory owners required a docile, agreeable workers who would show up on time and do what their managers told them. Sitting in a classroom all day with a teacher was good training for that.
Thirdly, God’s blessing works when we move our mindset from dependency to ability because God blesses us according to our ability.
Deuteronomy 8:18 But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth
Matthew 25:14-15 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability;
Deuteronomy 8:10-14 When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God.
Acts 3:1-5 One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.
Dependency is now the curse of our culture.
49% of the U.S. Population Lives in Households Receiving Government Benefits.
Three out of ten Americans want all student debt forgiven.
51% of generation Z looks favorably on socialism.
Poverty is a mindset of dependency that has nothing to do with money.
Matthew 25:1-4, 6-9 At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps… “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
“‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
Foolish people build their lives with the mindset that able people will always take care of them.
Dependent people are some of the angriest people on the planet-they are always blaming their circumstance on someone else not helping them.
