05 | The Journey Toward Your Purpose | Path to Purpose

Notes for

The Path of Purpose-5

The journey toward your purpose

Psalm 75:6 For promotion and power come from nowhere on earth, but only from God. He promotes one and deposes another.

Even though God wants to promote you in life, God still tests you before He trusts you.

Genesis 37:5 Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more.

God will reveal our purpose before we are ready to fulfill it.

Genesis 37:1-3 Jacob lived in the land where his father had stayed, the land of Canaan. This is the account of Jacob’s family line. Joseph, a young man of seventeen, was tending the flocks with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives, and he brought their father a bad report about them.

Genesis 37:4 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made an ornate robe for him. When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him.

v.5 Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more.

vv. 6-8 He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.” His brothers said to him, “Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said.

vv. 9-11 Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. “Listen,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”

When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, “What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?” His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.

Genesis 41:46 Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from Pharaoh’s presence and traveled throughout Egypt.

Philippians 2:13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

God has placed within you desires and dreams that if you act on them will fulfill His purpose in your life.

God has a purpose for you and your life, but between us and our purpose is a sin nature that we were born with, that God chips away in a process that takes time.

Genesis 22:12, 16-18 “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”… “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”

God’s dream for you is better than your dream for you and God’s purpose for you

is bigger than your purpose for you.

Ephesians 3:20 Amplified Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us

Numbers 12:6-8 “When there is a prophet among you, I, the Lord, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams. But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house. With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles

If you don’t know God’s dream for your life, spend time knowing God, the giver of dreams.

Psalm 103:7 He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel:

Genesis 12:1 Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go forth from your country, and from your relatives and from your father’s house, to the land which I will show you;

Your mountain is your direction.

Spend time with God and spend time seeking God and God will do two things that you can’t do yourself: He will open doors that no one else can for you, and He will clarify what He wants you to do.

Genesis 40:14 when all goes well with you, remember me and show me kindness; mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison.

Genesis 40:23-41:1 The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him…. two full years had passed

It’s easy to recognize pride in others; it’s real hard to recognize it in yourself.

Daniel 4:30 ‘Is this not Babylon the great, which I myself have built as a royal residence by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?’

I Kings 12:10-11 ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins! Whereas my father loaded you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke; my father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.’”

Isaiah 14:13-14 “But you said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north. ‘I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’

I Peter 5:5-6 all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time.

Genesis 41:15 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I had a dream, and no one can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.”

Genesis 41:16 “I cannot do it,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God will give Pharaoh the answer he desires.”

John 13:3-5 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God, got up from supper, and laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He girded Himself. Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded.

Here is the proof of someone who knows who he is-he can do anything, no matter how lowly and demeaning to help others.
